National PTA STEM + Families Science Festival
Sponsored by Bayer
(Held on Feb. 1, 2018)
The Highcroft Drive Elementary PTA won the 2017 National PTA STEM + Families Science Grant, sponsored by Bayer. Our PTA was one of only 30 PTA’s chosen from 600+ applicants for this honor and the accompanying $1,000 that funded our first-ever STEM Family event. There were fun activities, related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, that parents and students participated in, together.
Who knew HDE families loved science so much?
Approximately 500 members of the HDE community attended the STEM + Families Science Festival—our PTA’s first-ever STEM event. The cafeteria was packed with families learning about chemical reactions, elasticity, intermolecular polarity and more. Overwhelmingly, students who filled out the survey agree or strongly agree that after this event, science seems more fun. Almost all of the parents who filled out the survey agree or strongly agree that they learned something new about their children’s interest in science. These answers show that the event was successful in reaching its goal of getting parents involved in their children’s growing interest in science.
HDE students are lucky kids to be surrounded by such a supportive village. Look at all these incredibly generous organizations and individuals who made this all happen!
- Big thanks to National PTA and Bayer for the grant which allowed this fantastic experience to take place at our school!
- Thanks and kudos to the volunteers who served on the planning committee and helped all of the details fall into place: Sapna Jindal, Tejal Lalan, Chris Michaels, Sherwin Murphy, Andy Muto, Lauren Nicholls, Todd Qualls, Nasrin Rahmathulla, Craig Revels, and Jessica Revels.
- Dr. Gamble and Sloan Fleming were instrumental in keeping the rapidly developing plans moving with their 100% support and quick responses—thank you!
- Dozens more volunteers (parents, students and staff—including Mr. Kellogg and the Student Council) contributed their time and/or materials to the event and their efforts are greatly appreciated. HDE students are lucky kids to be surrounded by such a supportive village.
