Wellness Committee Recommendations
Having a birthday during the school year can be a lot of fun for youngsters, and while birthday celebrations typically conjure images of sugary treats, the PTA Wellness Committee encourages families to celebrate in a healthy way!
When we celebrate healthy birthdays, we see all kinds of benefits, including:
- consistent positive nutrition messages
- healthier kids who are ready to learn
- promotion of a healthy school environment
- a culture of excitement about nutrition
Healthy Food Ideas
- Fruit & Cheese Kabobs
- Pure Fruit Popsicles
- Graham Crackers
- Popcorn
- Pretzels
- Cheese Cubes with Toothpicks
- String Cheese
- Yogurt or Yogurt Parfaits
- Whole Grain Baked Goods (check local bakeries!)
Non-Food Treat Ideas
- Classroom-Related Items (i.e. fun pencils, erasers, or bookmarks)
- A Book for the Classroom Library (add a nameplate inside with the birthday child's name)
- Read Your Child's Favorite Book to the Class
- Water-Based Temporary Tattoos
- A Craft
- Music for a Dance Party
