PTA Member Spotlight

Angela Rensink

Co-Chair, Spring Carnival

1. Why did you join the PTA this year?

I've joined the PTA because I wanted to help the school and the children. I believe that as a group of parents, we can help make a difference for the school, teachers and children.

2. What do you love about Highcroft Drive Elementary?

The teachers. They found a way to make every child feel at home in a school as large at this.

3. What do you like to do for fun?

We love to travel. We go back home to the Netherlands every year and from there take our tent and find a fun place to camp somewhere in Europe.

4. What book did you read most recently and why?

I just picked up some good old Agatha Christie murder mysteries again. It's been at least 20 years since I last read those and fun to see what I still remembered.

5. What advice do you give your child that you hope he/she will always remember?

Be positive, trust your heart, be compassionate with others, and follow the path that lies in front of you.

And that they are perfect the way they are.

1. Why did you join the PTA this year?

I’ve joined the PTA as I believe that a school cannot be successful without the involvement of the parents.  The interaction and communication between parents and teachers is fundamental.  I also joined because I wanted to be aware of what was going on at HDE, and ensure that I had a voice as a parent of a child at HDE.

2. What do you love about Highcroft Drive Elementary?

I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Gamble and his pure desire for the children’s education and to have fun doing it.  With the interactions I’ve had so far, they are always his first priority as well as the safety of all.  The biggest thing I have found refreshing is that Dr. Gamble and the entire PTA is open to “new ways of doing things.”  No one seems stuck in the old way of thinking “that’s always how we’ve done it and we won’t change it.”

I am also in awe of my daughter’s teachers.  They communicate with our family and alert us to anything we need to pay closer attention to at home.  I have never seen such dedicated teachers as those at Highcroft.  This is our first year and we feel very blessed.

3. What do you like to do for fun?

Our family loves to go camping and hiking, whether it’s at the beach, the mountains, or even just to Umstead Park.  We also love to have family and friends over to cook out, sit by the fire, catch up and just relax.

4. What book did you read most recently and why?

Unfortunately most books I read these days are work related.  But the last one I enjoyed just for myself was “Girl on the Train”, which they ended up making into a movie I have yet to see.  Other than that, I’ve read many Dr. Seuss and Fairy Tales as we also have a 3 year old!  Does that count?

5. What advice do you give your child that you hope he/she will always remember?

There are 3 mottos in our home we try to live by:

  • Always do your best and never sell yourself short – be humble, but know that you are what you believe you are.
  • Be considerate with your words and try to think about how they may make the other person feel.
  • Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Other than that I hope they always know and remember how much they are loved – unconditionally.
